lyrics
This bitter morning
Tastes just like fire
I found you were my one desire
I’ve been surrounded by strange things
That don't satisfy
They're only shadows dancing across my mind
They say love is a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
I'm still swimming up through the pain
If things could be different
If I could change time
I would fix things together so you were mine
I'm much Better for Knowing You
When I found you I was lost in blue
Your love came down just to see me through
Now I don't want to go without your love
I don't want to go without your love
All of these vultures
Come buzzing around
Since my heart came crashing down
I was stone cold and locked up
But you found the key
Tell me, how do we paint a picture of you and me?
I'm much Better for Knowing You
Your love came down to just to see me through
When I first found you I was lost in blue
Now I don't want to go without your love
I don't want to live without your love
I stayed up all last night
Chasing my mind
You came and you took me by surprise
I fell in your eyes
Got lost in the sea
Now I'm looking for a way for us to be
Because I'm Better for Knowing You
When I first found you I was lost in blue
Your love came down just to see me through
Now I don't want to live without your love
I don't want to live without your love

The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
Cerebral palsy curbed his ability to play guitar the conventional way, so Nagoda learned double slide, this is his debut LP.
