lyrics
I was Born to Roam
No direction home
I was born to ride
Nobody by my side
I'm on the rise
So don't you hold me down
I came to knock
The dust off this town
When I reach that river on a midnight ride
They'll be nowhere for me to run or hide
Never gonna settle down and find no boss
I'm a rolling stone
Never gather no moss
I was Born to Roam
No direction home
I can't take nobody else
I'm going alone
I was born to roam
I was born to fly
Never learned to land
I can take more trouble
Than most men can stand
I just chase the wind
Never leaned to lose
I was never taught to pay
No debts our dues
When the lights go down on the other side
They'll be nowhere for me to run or hide
I never worry 'bout the kind of shape I'm in
When I'm down, I get up again
I was Born to Roam
No direction home
I don't have no lover I can call my own
I was Born to Roam
I was Born to Roam
Into the great unknown
I was born to live and die upon this lonesome road
I was Born to Roam
I was Born to Roam…
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
Cerebral palsy curbed his ability to play guitar the conventional way, so Nagoda learned double slide, this is his debut LP.
